CO- CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

WORKSHOP & SEMINAR

We organize National/State level Workshops and Seminars in every year for enhancing the knowledge of the students and staff. They acquire the current and latest knowledge through this platform. The senior students are given the opportunities to organize, conduct and participate in Workshops and Seminar in and out of the campus in order to improve the leadership qualities and thereby giving a proper boost to grow skills like learning, communication, listening and experiencing new bonding developed through such platforms which have immense value for students and their upcoming future.

JOURNAL CLUB

The journal club is actively organized by department wise in every month to improve skills, critical appraisal of current and incorporating evidence-based practice. A journal club is actively working and the staff and students are doing Journal presentations regularly.

PAPER PRESENTATIONS

The staff and students are published papers in various international and national nursing journals and this has taken in to consideration for review of their achievements.

PROJECT WORKS

As part of the activities of Nursing Research, the staff and students are entertained with individual and departmental research studies and also disseminate the same.


Extra Curricular Activities

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

Al Shifa College of Nursing NSS unit No. NSS/FU/MPM/KUHS/3, is actively imparting values and conducts various activities to enhance the National Service Programmes. The unit consists of 100 volunteers and an NSS Programme officer and the unit is conducting Regular Activities and Special Camps. The students are involved in conducting health awareness, family welfare and nutritional programmes, environmental enrich programmes includes environmental sanitation, plantation and preservation of trees. NSS unit also plans cultural activities health awareness programmes school health programme, blood donation camps, social service programmes, Medical checkup for the public, and orientation programmes.

RED RIBBON CLUB (RRB)

The red ribbon club is actively conducts various activities to make awareness about the deadly disease AIDS. The activities of the Red Ribbon club is co-ordinated by the NSS programme Officer and every year on 1st December on the occasion of World AIDS day observance the club volunteers organizing various awareness programmes for the public in various areas such as Government Hospital premises, Shopping Areas and in Community areas with lots of programmes such as flash Mob, Street plays, Skits, Health Exhibitions. The students are familiarized with the difficulties and problems faced by a HIV Positive person by arranging a session with the HIV Positive Speaker.

SPORTS & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

Facilities are provided for the students to participate in various sports and games. A number of outdoor and indoor games are being organized. The play ground comprises of Volley Ball Courts, and grounds for High-jump, Long Jump, Shuttle badminton, Javelin and Discus Throw. Indoor games are available for students in college as well as in the hostel. Students also participate in Inter collegiate sports competitions. Cultural activities forum has been created to encourage extra- curricular activities of the students and provide a suitable platform for exhibiting their talents like; singing, mono-act, acting, debating etc. National festivals are celebrated in a befitting manner. Meritorious students are honoured on such special occasions.


STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

To provide a permanent record of the educational accomplishments of an individual who has completed one or more significant non-credit educational experiences for educators and other needs to stay current with the latest developments, skills, and new technologies required for their education fields and is considered a way for them to keep abreast of their fields so they don’t lag behind. With this broad vision we are providing training to our staff with prominent trainers.

DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES

ACADEMIC COMMITTEE

Academic Committee mainly plans the entire curricular activities and plays a prominent role in identifying student’s interest and difficulties.

  • It provides timely resolutions for students’ teaching learning problems and issues.
  • It is responsible for conduct/ co-ordinate various committees to activate.
  • To guide the students in taking up extra academic professional activities.
  • To contact the parents /guardians of the students in case of their academic irregularities and behavioral changes.
  • To advise the students in their carrier.

QUALITY CELL

It comprises of representative of management, Principal, HODs and senior staff members. It meets once in six months to audit and evaluate the internal system. It is functioning to evaluate the process of teaching and learning activities to achieve academic excellence.

  • Arrangement of feedback reports from students and parents.
  • It facilitate the creation of a learner centric environment conducive to quality education and faculty maturation and technology for participating teaching-learning process.
  • Dissemination of information on various quality parameters of higher education.

STUDENT SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE CELL

As a venture of Kerala University of Health Sciences, a Student Support and Guidance Cell is established and actively working in our College. Two Nodal Officers are appointed from the teaching staff of the college and the cell is actively involving in the each and every matter of the students for helping them. The activities includes stress management, guidance and counseling, professional socialization, coping, motivation programmes and improving of communication skills. Activities carried out are,

  • One to one counseling services
  • Group counseling
  • Class room lecture hours
  • Motivation sessions
  • psychological support

STUDENT DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE

It was formed to solve problems of students’ indiscipline and look in to the welfare of students. The members of the committee are, chairperson, Member secretary and three staff members. Its aim is to maintain discipline in the College campus and in the hospitals wherever the students are posted and to uptake measures for inappropriate behaviour of students.

GRIEVANCES REDRESSEL CELL

The main focus of the cell is to enable the students to express confidently and freely about their academic, emotional and personal problems to a professional who can help them effectively which enhance them in their learning and personal development.

COLLEGE COUNCIL

Focuses on vision of this college, maintenance and achievement of excellence in academic and administrative activities. It also looks in to planning, organizing, co-ordinate budgeting for the development of curriculum and other activities.

MENTOR SYSTEM

In order to adhere with the quality policy, mentor system introduced and successfully proceeded with continuous monitoring, counsel, guide, and motivate for carrier development/ professional guidance and maintain a progressive growth and development

MAGAZINE COMMITTEE

The college Magazine committee is available, which comprises of Principal, Vice – Principal, 2 faculty members and student’s representatives are actively participate in preparing of College Magazine and related activities.


STUDENTS WELFARE programmes

In regard to this, regular Personality Development programmes are undertaken by eminent external faculties. The Students Welfare Officer will guide them in their personal problems. A Student Welfare Committee is formed with Principal as the Chairman. Our career guidance and placement cell will guide the students for better training and placements of their future career.

ANTI-RAGGING /COMMITTEE/ SQUAD

As per the directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court of India/Indian Nursing council/UGC regulations, the institution has constituted the Anti Ragging Committee and Anti Ragging Squad headed by senior faculty members . The incidence of ragging can be reported to any of the Anti-ragging squad members. The members are vigilant during admission session. The District Legal Service Authority Malappuram conducts legal awareness classes for the Nursing students on regular basis. In case any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the Principal, the concerned students shall be given to the liberty to explain and the Principal reserves right to take action as per the directions of Supreme Court of India, including expulsion of student from the institution.

MESS COMMITTEE

The committee meets regularly in every month to discuss about the menu. Accordingly menu finalized by accepting suggestions and incorporating students’ opinion in to the menu. Other problems are discussed for rectification and further clearance. The committee oversee the delivery of food.

WOMEN’S CELL

A women cell is functioning to decrease crime against women, build awareness and develop community in to safer place to live, work and shop. Free of violence against women and girls helpline No:1091.

PHYSICAL TRAINING CELL

To refresh the students physically and mentally from the busy academic schedule, students are provided with physical training hours and yoga practice.

MEDICAL BENEFITS & HEALTH CARE COVERAGE

Our students are given Medical Support with concession in our parent hospital itself and annual medical checkups are available for all the students. All students and staff shall be covered under Health Insurance Scheme and road traffic accident scheme promoted by Shifa Medicare Trust.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Various Scholarship facilities are available for the eligible students from different sources such as National /state government, banks, SC/ST departments, University and other external sources.

MORAL/SPIRITUAL NEEDS

A magnificent hall is attached to the college, where the students pray every morning and as and when required. Each student has freedom to follow his/her own faith. Attendance at Morning Prayer is compulsory for the students’ healthy development. Cultural and spiritual activities arranged throughout the year for the students. Personality developments and stress reduction coaching are also periodically conducted. Educational tours and picnics are arranged for students.

PUNCHING SYSTEM

Punching system is available in college as well as in parent hospital. All teaching and non-teaching staff have to enroll their presence through punching and same system is followed by the students and staff during clinical posting at our parent hospital.
