Nursing today is far different from nursing as it was practiced years ago, and it is expected to continue changing during the 21st century. There is a vast scope for nurses not only in India, but in the global scenario too. Nurses are much in demand in hospitals, where they function as Staff Nurses, Supervisors, Nurse Manager and Nurse Educator.
In the nursing educational institutions, nurse educators impart holistic education to the student nurses. Graduate nurses enhance their qualifications by going for higher studies and go on to acquire Ph. D degrees in various disciplines. The job profile of the nurses in the hospital varies from that of a bedside nurse to a top level administrator, who meticulously manages a team of professional health care workers. Throughout its distinguished history, nursing has had a significance effect on people’s life.
Today nurses bring knowledge, leadership spirit and vital expertise to expanding roles that afford increased participation, responsibility and rewards. As students progress in the P G Programme, they will find an increasing emphasis on interpersonal skills, independent learning, and ability to interact with others. Keeping these requirements in mind M. Sc Nursing Programme has been designed to meet the change in demands on health care. The nursing field is growing rapidly due to increase in population and advancement in health care technology. Due to these advancements in health care industry need highly trained nurses who can assist better. Master Degree in Nursing is playing an important role for many jobs and is highly in demand.

Eligibility
- Candidate should have passed the Bachelor Degree in Nursing of any of the University recognized by Kerala University of Health Sciences. Only candidates who passed a regular full term degree program will be eligible for admission.
- Candidates who have passed the Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (Regular Course) of any of the University recognized by Kerala University of Health Sciences after acquiring General Nursing and Midwifery Course.
- Candidates who have passed B.Sc. Degree in Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (Regular Course) or equivalent examination from universities outside Kerala and any of the Deemed universities, should produce the recognition/eligibility certificate from the Kerala University of Health Sciences on or before the last date of receipt of application.
- Applicant shall have completed one year of experience, as on the date of allotment/ counseling of seats to be notified, in any hospital with an average strength of one hundred inpatients or in a School of Nursing or in a Community Health Nursing Programme or internship/ Compulsory government service after registration with the Kerala Nursing Council.
- Internship certificate is to be produced by candidates who have passed B.Sc. Nursing from Government Nursing colleges after 2008
- Applicant shall have obtained registration with the Kerala Nursing Council and the registration certificate is to be submitted at the time of counseling
- Age: The upper age limit for General Merit candidates shall be 46 years and for Service candidates 49 years as on the last date for submission of application.
- A criteria for selection and method of admission to Merit / Management seats is govern by the rules and regulations frame by the Government of Kerala.
Duration
Duration of the course shall be 2 years from the date of joining the course. The maximum period to complete the course is 4 years.
Examination
Regular university examination shall be conducted at the end of each year and supplementary examination will be conducted 3 months after the regular examination.
Eligibility for appearing examination
- The candidates must have 80% attendance in each theory and practical with minimum 50% of internal marks in each subject. However 100% of attendance for practical before the award of degree.
- A candidate who fails in any subject shall be permitted to continue the studies into the 2nd year. However, the candidate shall not be allowed to appear for the 2nd year examination till such time that she/he passes all subjects in the first year M.Sc. Nursing Examination.
